Nah

The fundamental problwms with a third referendum are that (a) both parties have now adopted leave positions (b) i dont think the result will be any different (c) even if it *was* different, you have a significant anti-EU base which will make continued membership a constant political battle. If we thought the Major years were bad for it, you aint seen nuthin' yet.

Perversely the best course of action for our longer term participation is a spell on the sidelines and a dose of reality of life on the outside.

We may well thrive, abd if we dont then demographics will see to it that we will be back in within 15 years as a fully engaged, willing European nation with all the zeal of a convert.

In the meantime we will see a 'deal' that looks something remarkably like kicking the can down the road to 2020 (or whatever year the current EU budget is up to) with a transition period to let both sides build up their capacity to handle cross-border checks (particularly in NI). Then its no deal Brexit, save for some third party co-operation on things like aviation, security, nuclear etc.

There is no other workable option, there never has been. Our respective red lines are wholly incompatible. Chequers cant work, the Labour position cant work.

The only thing that can work is no deal and spending the next few years working out how much smughling all sides are willing to turn a blind eye to NI, and creating a 'border' accordingly.
