MANY teams have done better than us. A lot better than us.

Fans of those clubs, even when they go down, have a lot more to sustain themselves with than we do.

Why have we not been able to do better than we have? Our owners' lack of resources. Which having hitherto been too scant to sustain us in the Prem, are now too scant to sustain us as challengers in this division. Next stop: too scant to sustain us in this division at all.

Do you think the fans of all the clubs who've changed ownership over the last 20 years somehow have no soul? Have no sense of what 'matters'? That we're better than them or something? What would the fans of most other similar-sized clubs to ourselves say if their owners were as poor as ours are?

They'd say: "Well, we'd better get new ones if we want to succeed". Ours say: "Oh no, we might become Portsmouth! We might become Sunderland! We might become Ipswich! Let's stick to the tried and failed". And bit by bit, we shrink - to the point whereby there's barely any difference between ourselves and Ipswich as it is.
