With WMP...

make sure you're ripping songs in .mp3 format. Tools -> Options -> Rip Music -> Drop down box to choose wma or mp3. Make sure settings are on .mp3 and smallest file size 128 kbps for transfer to your mp3.

Should then work a treat!

If your PC is bluetoothed up, you can also send music files to your phone that way.
