FAO roth cinephiles
Would strongly recommend catching up with Mark Kermode's Secrets of Cinema series, currently airing on beeb4.
Takes a look at a different genre each week - uses the best examples from fillum history to explore the rules of the format, the tricks and methods directors use, and how different films have copied and learnt from previous ones.
Sounds a bit dry, but it's actually really good. Last week was heist movies, last night was coming of age films. Both really interesting, I thought. Though they do make you want to see loads of films you've missed, or that you haven't seen for ages.
Or ignore if not your bag, obviously.
