You can coach decision making to a certain extent

But it entails running scenarios over and over again in training so that when it happens in a game the hesitation is gone.

However, it's hard to do that for a couple of players when you have to be working on technique and the system as a whole.

In my sport we do more and more "in-play reading" requiring decisions to be made in a split second on field, so we practice those scenarios all the time until they become a habit.

I think I've suggested it before, but I think part of why we were "slower" than a team like Fulham playing a similar system is that we were still thinking about decisions on the field too often. When you hesitate, it slows the whole thing down.
