But it will always be somebody else’s fault. Not a good trait for success in life let alone any profession.

I have known a lot of those kids. Some turn around. Vast majority do not and you give up on them because they require investing far more energy than the product is worth. Sports is a tough business and a traumatic one if you have a sense of entitlement.
