I do remember reading a theory somewhere

that in the run up to their WC Qatar would start offering huge packages to up and coming world class players if they took citizenship and made themselves available to play for their national team. Hence they'd line up with a cracking squad full of Brazilians, Argentinians etc etc and might well win the thing. Getting Zidane signed on might be the first step in this master plan.

This would of course be the death of any last shred of Corinthian spirit left in the modern game, but money talks. (before i point the finger at anyone, i feel pretty sure my morals are available to anyone willing to sling me £100m+.)
