It sounds dramatic but it really isnt an exaggeration to say his life was literally in jeopardy at that point - people, even athletes, have strokes in similar situations.

And during all the time on the floor, trying and failing to come to his senses (he would have had distorted vision, at the time and wouldn't have been able to comprehend what was going on) he was surrounded by a dozen or.so spectators who just pointed their camera phones at him.

At any major city marathon in the world, the race director would have had paramedics on their way as soon as they saw him weaving around the road before going down the first time. Quite how they managed not to for the lead runner in the f**king Commonwealth Games is astounding.
