See I think some of this is a good plan, for next season...
At the moment the squad lacks genuine strikers, so starting two up front is a risk. If one is injured and the other is suspended, then you're screwed (INSERT ANTI-WEBBER HATREE HERE MICHAEL).
Murphy played more centrally as a left forward in the 3-4-3 and didn't impress me there. His end product is poor in general (see the first Chelsea game with him up front). I don't see him scoring the 15 goals(+) a season we would need in that position, but it is worth a try in our situation. Srbeny definitely has potential as a targetman though, even if he's not scoring (atm), his hold up play and ability to link up with others coming short looks decent. Oliveira would be a great second striker to have in a 3-5-2, dropping off into deeper positions. The issue with Srbeny and Oliveira up front in that formation though is a lack of pace, which goes backs to Murphy...
The problem with 3-5-2 that we have seen with the 3-4-3 is a lack of quality attacking play from full backs. Two strikers really demands quality deliveries into the box from wide positions, which doesn't happen unless the centre backs decide to tear up the script and go gung ho. Crossing and natural width from full backs is an issue in general though. It's the same if we tried a diamond so we could play Wes and Maddison together. With the diamond the full backs would struggle even more defensively and that would add more problems to an already frail and easy to drag apart four at the back.
Agree that the selection of wingers are poor. Wes should play more, I think we all agree on that.
C+ effort Walker. Some nice tactical balance and innovation with trying players in new positions, but fails to take into account the limitations of the squad. I'm not unimpressed but think you could do better. *Disengages sneery facial expression*
