Actually, World Series in baseball is bordering on cheeky. Japan would give them a decent run for their money. Calling the Super Bowl a World Championship might be sneered upon but if any NFL team played any other professional team in the world you'd need a fleet of ambulances at the stadium, so that's fair enough at least for now.
I've coached at the American Football World Cup. That's also a bit odd, given that not one currently professional American player took part (nor ever would due to contract and insurance).
But my comment about the USA was more about their lecturing the world than their sporting achievements.
