The thing I find difficult is that everything these days is judged against a moral code of conduct rather than the law.

In this case, it’s probably a bit clearer that what was being done was perhaps a little morally dubious, but the papers vilify ingenious media when they did actually have significant substance in the film industry.

You make a good point about things taking a few years to become clear, which is essentially because whether something like this works or doesn’t work is typically decided in court after a number of years of challenge.

I do think though that there is a difference between someone out of the public eye making such an investment and someone who wants to be the head of a regulatory body doing it.

As a general point though, tax law is far more robust these days. Multinational groups and individuals too, are far less able to manage the amount of tax they pay via scheme type arrangements.
