I now drive a Skoda

Octavia as my needs are different to yours but it's super reliable, not exciting/sexy but does the job both in town and on the longer trips (which for me are more frequent than it sounds like they are for you). Replaced my beat-up 3 series and no regrets whatsoever. Basically it never goes wrong.
