We only had such high costs to cut because we were actually well run and got promoted to the Prem without mega sugar day funding. We're just getting wage bills back to what they'd been if we'd never had that success (except then they'd be even lower because we'd be paying piles of interest to the bank).
It is astonishingly hard to establish yourself in the Prem without massive backing (fantastically hard even to reach it, just ask loads of high spending Champs clubs who haven't even managed that). So failure to do that is hardly evidence of incompetence. To achieve it we needed a LOT of things to go right, and as it happened they didn't...
