And having fought so hard to get back into it probably the only truly demoralising way we could have found to lose.

Good bowling from the Aussies today - they have the edge in terms of the consistency and all round threat of their bowling attack but we have shown in both tests that there is nothing in it when we play with the required concentration/intensity. As Vaughan has said they are just winning the decisive moments in these tests and I think the overall score lines are flattering them. Our mid order is also not saving us in the way it's done for the last two or three years which has diverted attention from the fact Cook is no longer reliable and our top 5 are consistently struggling other than Root with his regular 50's but not hundreds. Their two hundreds in the series so far have given them a platform we've never had.
