Going to Arsenal last night has really made me question my interest in football.

I thought our performance was great and my last away game was at Millwall, so it was certainly a change for me. I enjoyed the Norwich side of it very much.

However, I wake up with an internal disposition that makes me think I'm going to take a break from football - Something that seemed unimaginable only 24 hours ago. The sheer placidity of the Emirates… their one minute silent, one minute rapturous fans and the cruelty of life as ‘little old Norwich’ brought me back to the dissatisfaction of standing in the same spot several seasons ago.

We lost 1-0 that day in a boring, sterile game with no atmosphere that was reminiscent of so many games that season. The ref got all the attention, we played reasonably well for a team of our stature, but we lost it due to the depth of a very expensive squad. Arsenal went away victorious and their fans jubilant, but nothing really exciting had happened. Much of that season, I looked to the excitement of a return to the championship.

The ref last night was appalling. Even on the smallest of decisions he showed a bias. There have been several posts about their fans and the reactions of ours (not proud, but I was one of those who reacted badly to the goading... and I felt embarrassed about it on the way home).

What’s the very best a Norwich fan can hope for this season? A return to the sterile, corporate ‘events’ of the premier league where all the decisions - on and off the pitch – go in favour of ‘the big clubs’? Do I really want to spend the rest of my year pandering over such an opportunity? A repetitious joy of promotion followed by the disappointment of boring football. Really?

For the first time in 30 years, I might not buy that ticket, tune in to iFollow or turn on the radio this weekend. Perhaps I’ll go for a walk…
