So yesty, I was asking about conspiracy theorists, and read up that people find comfort

in these beliefs, which is why they ignore facts because they like persistent believing everything happened on purpose and not be worried that the world is a chaotic mess.

Is this why when you suspect anything (fraud, foul play, anything) people are super quick to down play what you say because it represents cracking their comforted belief system that things played by the rules and correct?
