Really?
Struck me as a bit of attention-seeking passive aggression aimed at the people who were upset after Burton (and of course yet another shot in KJ's endless war against Jim).
#3 (and the shouty bit of #2) also ignores a basic truth, which is that people get very passionate about sport and have done since it was invented, way back to the beginnings of recorded history. It's artificial (and patronising) to say to those people "oh it's only sport, it's nothing to get worked up about, you need to reassess your life if you get upset about it". Sport has a huge ability (completely irrational of course) to affect our happiness. I still remember various moments of sporting agony and the "kicked in the guts" feeling that they brought - Birmingham's equaliser in the PO final, for example, which was just horrendous! This doesn't require me to follow another sport, or "engage in a serious period of self-reflection". It's because following sport can do that to you.
So I don't buy the superior "what are you all so worked up about" line. I totally understand why people get narked by a poor performance on the day or the day after. Fair enough.
