Wouldn't say 'best', but I just finished and enjoyed The Way Of The Runner by

Adharanand Finn. It's a document of his time living in Japan and researching Japanese attitudes to running. V good on Japanese society/psychology, but perhaps less accessible if you're not a smugrunner. V good if you are a smugrunner tho.

Will def read his other book, about living and training in Kenya with elite-wannabe Kenyan runners.
