And you won't know the terminology but for example if I go into a new team as
Defensive coordinator I will immediately want to run a 33 stack because I've it's versatility, know it very well and can teach it in detail. If i don't have a massive strong tackle (oo-er!) or two, some strong ends and speed behind them then I will simply abandon the idea and go to a 4-3 because it works better without, and I've coached it before at a couple of teams.
In each case I would then teach the coverages I have and when it comes to it play the ones we execute best after watching the guys in practice.
However unless head coach insists, I won't introduce a 46 bear, an eagle front or a 3-4 as I'm far less knowledgeable about them and it will reflect in our ability to run them.
