Re. Our squad overhaul. Isn't this something that has been done 1 season too early?

We f**ked it up last season, and everyone knows why. This is our last season of parachute payments so shoud'nt we be making a bloody good go of it this season as it is realistically our last chance to get promoted?
It seems that we are already preparing for life in the Championship. Consolidating our position there. Where is the ambition?
Other than the defence there wasn't alot wrong with the squad that we had. Yeah, sure we had some big earners on the wage bill. But I would worry about getting rid of them and trimming the wage bill if we didn't go up this season. In a way it seems we have given up on the idea of getting promoted and are preparing to consolidate our position in the Championship. How else can you explain the culling of the squad?
