Reagrding washed up pipes thread below; These are sections

of a new gas pipeline which were being towed to Algeria to then be laid and the sections joined.

They are manufactured in sections by Subsea 7 at a facility at Wick in Scotland. each sections has air pumped and the ends capped so the sections float and they are then towed in a 'bundle' by a tug to their destination.

Looks as if the main tow line parted en route hence why several sections have been washed ashore.
