Now here's an oddity....
Was thinking it was the first Test hat-trick by any spinner in England (ie playing for anyone).
But turns out not. An Australian leg-spinner called Jimmy Matthews did it at Old Trafford in 1912. Against South Africa, in a Triangular tournament. And he did it twice.
In the same match (though in different innings).
On the same day.
(And the final wicket was also the only ever King Pair on debut in test cricket.)
Wow.
