They are trying to portray that their hand has been forced by his refusal to sign a

Contract. It's spin, pure and simple.

Now you can plausibly argue that it's worth selling Howson to finance new signings. Some of us will agree and some will disagree but that's an "honest line."

He has two years left on his contract and there is no way we will have offered him an extension on anything other than significantly reduced wages.
