exactly. It's not always true that doing it yourself is cheaper.
there's a resort we've been to a couple of times in La Palma - that works out cheaper by going with a travel agent rather than doing everything seperately, mostly because the travel agent also owned the plane we flew on, but there are few other flights to La Palma (unless we wanted to spend days waiting for connecting flights)
we'll always compare doing it all ourselves to getting a package - why would we research one and not the other?
