This. Plus the reinvention of Brand Balls needs to continue

Michael Portillo was widely and rightly despised while in public office, but has reinvented himself as a likeable and insightful commentator/contributor after it. I imagine Balls is on a similar journey. He was gracelessly pugnacious in office; there is another side to him and he's showing that off so there is a "what's next" for him. I'd be stunned if he ever sought public office again; usually after a defenestration of that sort, they stay out of it.
