Voting with your feet but frightened to stay away?
This frustration with fans not voting with their feet – i.e. that they won’t stop attending matches so the board won’t ever get the message. Am I alone in noticing something awry with this argument, in that this is exactly what the binners have been doing in their droves for years now. Their ground is rarely if ever near-full because most stay away as a form of protest, yet we mock this (understandably, I suppose) as a lack of loyalty and true support for their club.
So, at what point do our supporters who attend no matter what become suckers who daren’t stay away in protest and who are part of the problem? And at what point do their disloyal, plastic fans who have stopped attending, become the true objectors, standing up to Evans and his board, something we seem unable or unwilling to do? The binners aren’t alone of course, but including them in my example makes the irony of our accusations against the sedentariness of our inaction feel a little starker. Merry Christmas by the way.
