Inside the LHC, the vacuum is comparable to interstellar space
in the main beam ring and in particular round the collision points where all the detectors are. This is to avoid super-accelerated very small things scattering off an unwanted atom of gas rather than other super-accelerated very small things going very fast in the opposite direction.

- Question for the Scientific Calculator Ultras: Does the Sun make noise? (NCFC) - MIKEWALKER, Nov 2, 09:24:00
- About time you started that Science Homework... slacker. (n/m) (NCFC) - Pixelman, Nov 2, 09:54:30
- Sound only exists if their is something to percieve it, (NCFC) - maidstoneyellow, Nov 2, 09:46:23
- also if you got near enough to the sun to hear it you'd singe your lug (NCFC) - Tombs, Nov 2, 09:54:06
- Yeah, contrary to people who say it's in a vacuum (NCFC) - Charles21, Nov 2, 09:41:37
- you can turn it off in settings (NCFC) - Tombs, Nov 2, 09:43:59
- It's a nuclear fusion reaction 1.3 million times larger than our entire planet. (NCFC) - Arizona Bay, Nov 2, 09:33:13
- A concise, legible answer, at last. Is the sun in a vacuum though? Is this confirmed? (n/m) (NCFC) - MIKEWALKER, Nov 2, 09:34:56
- It is in as near as a perfect vacuum as makes any difference. (NCFC) - Arizona Bay, Nov 2, 09:51:20
- no, not a perfect vacuum (n/m) (NCFC) - Ralf Scrampton, Nov 2, 09:39:04
- so AB is wrong? His theory is bunkum, yes? (n/m) (NCFC) - MIKEWALKER, Nov 2, 09:40:31
- no, because space is a close to a perfect vacuum as you'll ever get (n/m) (NCFC) - Ralf Scrampton, Nov 2, 09:43:30
- I think James Dyson might have something to say about that, sunshine. (n/m) (NCFC) - MIKEWALKER, Nov 2, 09:48:01
- James Dyson would move the sun to Malaysia to exploit cheap labour and materials (NCFC) - Arizona Bay, Nov 2, 09:58:06
- vmt... the twatrag. (n/m) (NCFC) - Pixelman, Nov 2, 10:09:47
- nothing worth listening to though, pal (n/m) (NCFC) - Ralf Scrampton, Nov 2, 09:49:23

- you wouldn't want two pints of cullen skink rattling around in there though would you? (NCFC) - Tombs, Nov 2, 09:51:02
- it'd keep a choc-ice cold for eternity though, a thermos deffo couldn't manage that (n/m) (NCFC) - Ralf Scrampton, Nov 2, 09:47:43
- you can't just pop space into your glovebox though so in terms of practicality the thermos (NCFC) - Tombs, Nov 2, 09:56:46
- Well, space should be always in your glove box, frankly. (n/m) (NCFC) - APB, Nov 2, 10:27:14

- ta pal. I appreciated the musical analogy on the day of Cauty and Drummond chat (n/m) (NCFC) - MIKEWALKER, Nov 2, 09:39:25
- no (NCFC) - Tombs, Nov 2, 09:30:51
- I bet Cauty and Drummond could make a record that was louder and better than the sun. (n/m) (NCFC) - MIKEWALKER, Nov 2, 09:32:03
- the evidence would suggest yes (NCFC) - Tombs, Nov 2, 09:38:26
