I used to regularly meet great HR people before around 2000. Since then they

have tended to be more as you describe.

Don't really see the added value at all any more. Especially the ones who insist on getting involved in recruitment to the level of filtering out all the decent cvs before you even get a chance to look at them, then send you absolute bollocks resumes with no match whatsoever for your vacancy.

Modern experiences of HR are:

Team of about 30 of the f**kers for companies ok the region of 2000-4000 employees;
Nobody actually there if you do visit;
"Opening hours" of about fifteen minutes a day;
Automatic replies to any email with standard response times of about 5 working days for complex questions like "what was my start date?";
About 10 working days to "process" a job application (i.e. Getting around to either deleting it if it's a decent resume or forwarding it to me if it's utterly s**t);
Lots of team parties, lunches, off site training (how to reject any cv which looks even remotely competent).
Etc.
