We are grinding our results without playing well I will give him that

The point is though that his substitutions to "protect" our lead are not working, teams are eroding our lead or in the case of last night overturning it.

I appreciate that the "points" gained is only one measure and other factors can include how the pattern of play is influenced, steadying the ship etc. My personal view on that is we very, very rarely play better after substitutions than we were playing before them. Mulumbu at Portman Road (ridiculous substitution at a time we had a grip on the game) being a case in point and pretty much every time he's taken off Wes anywhere.

We have the players to beat many teams in this league without playing well or indeed whilst playing (and particularly defending) quite badly. That is no achievement for the manager. I suppose we could possibly get promoted just by virtue of beating the crap teams whilst losing the half a dozen difficult games we will have. I would obviously be pleased if we get up regardless of how we do it. I would not regard that as proof that Neil has learnt anything or is good enough to keep us up though. When he makes a pro-active change that positively influences a game or shows he has actually learnt something I will praise him, you have my word.
