Having taught in a comp with a class of 30 lads

25 of who were not academic, had no interest in being educated at all and whose sole aim was to achieve nothing in the 1 hour I had them, there comes a point were they have to take responsibility.

You cant force kids to learn. the 5 poor lads who had to suffer constant lesson interruptions ultimately got less of an education. This is the problem with Comprehensive, it teaches to the lowest common denominator. We do not have enough money to fund 8-10 child classes which would make controlling the "not interested" group feasible.

At least with Grammars the ones who were motivated, whatever their class or background could get on. I don't know why we abandoned technical training for the non-academic. The Germans have always had a strong vocational track.
