Muffins have the wet and dry ingredients mixed quickly and lightly together by folding

Whereas for fairy cakes you start by creaming the butter and sugar together the rest of the ingredients (unless you're going for the all in one method of course).

Fairy cakes tend to have a denser more crumbly texture while muffins are airier with less fat.

Both are lovely.

But different!
