Audiobooks, yes or no?

I've been listening to one (Use of Weapons - Iain Banks) for the first time and I'm finding it quite hard going.

I don't think it's the delivery, I just find it hard to follow and I'd be hard pushed to tell you much about the half hour I listened to last night. I just get the feeling maybe my comprehension and memory is more visual than aural.

or do I just need to attune my brain to hearing the words rather than seeing them?
