You should all read, those of you who can, Dominion by CJ Samson.
Alternate history novel, based around the premise of what might have happened if the appeasement-supporting Lord Halifax had become PM in 1940 instead of Churchill.
Written in 2012, ahead of the Scots Independence ref, and obvs the EU ref, but the author's note at the end about the rise of nationalism across Europe in general and in Britain in specific are chilling and horribly prescient. The whole tone of the book, it's imagining of a British population to whom encouragement to nationalism, to voicing opposition to Others on whom any problem can be blamed, to outright anti-Semitism have been given by a political and electoral process, twisted to the point of corruption by a handful of media magnates, is enthralling and seems particularly relevant.
