Absolutely. Ordinary people are who got us in this mess to start with!
Yes, I know. What mess ? Indeed. What mess are we in that we need to get out of ? Why do we need to even talk about leaving the European Union ? What triggered the debate ?
Of course it is an important question, but surely one just like many others, which should rather be continuously reviewed, measured and forecasted rather than suddenly throwing it open to referendum.
Vote for the party with the policies you believe in. If you don't believe in the EU, vote for a party which has separationist intent. If not, vote for somebody else. That's how democracies work. Not by throwing every decision open to the uninformed public AND THEN NOT INFORMING THEM.
Anyway, it was meant to be just a quip, but it's a valid question as to at where the border is between making an executive decision based on your government's core competencies, knowledge and experience or throwing it open to a referendum. IF the parties in power had come to the conclusion that they should leave, then I would have supported a referendum to check on public opinion, but not this way.
What this has shown is the lack of qualification of voters to make this decision. What next ? Facebook polls on NHS funding ?
