Their lack of "crowd control" in Marseille was staggering

And by crowd control I don't mean chucking in tear gas every so often to make the crowds disburse.

I know it's more challenging keeping the peace when you've got thousands of people in a city for two to three days rather than for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon but the way that the Russian group were able to move around at will was staggering. A mate of mine in the Old Port sent me a picture of that group when they first appeared on Friday lunchtime. If it was the uk then that group would have been picked up by the police, put in a couple of bars away from the England contingent and monitored.

Our police also would have just imposed some sort of cordon around the England fans in the main squares, left them to it and not let the Russians anywhere near. Whether or not they should have yo do that is another question and there are others factors as well but our police are in a different league when it comes to keeping rival factions apart.
