all depends on what you want to use it for
if it's mainly road and bit dirt tracks then I would go for a hardtail. if its proper off road mountain biking then full suspension.
don't buy from Halfords, Boardmans are ok but over priced,
I'm currently looking to replace mine and am looking at either a Giant Roam or a Scott, nothing fancy though as I only use it to go to work and back.
I would look at the following sites.
Rutland cycles, Tredz or Evens.
