I know to start with it sounds like 'stating the bleedin' but
it greatly depends on budget and whether you want hardtail, full suspension etc. All I would say is just buy the best you can afford. Mountain biking (probably better described as trail riding, well certainly in Norfolk) is superb but they're big bikes and a cheap one (under say ?400) is going to be heavy and unresponsive and a pig to ride. But a good one (say ?1500) will be money much better spent because you'll want to ride it. Have you any idea what you want it for, budget etc.?
