PM: Tricky re: Geneva

I've been there quite a lot of times (to work with WTO and/or WIPO, which sounds like a babycare product but is actually the World Intellectual Property Organisation).

Geneva itself is Dull. Epically dull. To see the sights go down to the waterfront, cross the bridge, look at the waterjet. That's it.

However it's on the edge of Lake Geneva. That's gorgeous. If you can steal a half day, train it to Lausanne, get the ferry over to Evian, train it back again. If you've longer there's loads to do in and round - bit late this year but whitsun is not a holiday in France so all the gites (holiday homes - not Old Gites) on the French side are on low-season prices. Which means you can get e.g. a 10-berther all week for a few hundred. Go to Aigle (lovely castle), Bex (salt mine - which in and of itself is dull but the train takes you literally a mile underground and that is very cool for any kids you have in tow). Go to Montreux, get on the cog railway - again in and of itself cool for Da Kids, start off in hot sunshine and finish on top of an alp knee deep in snow. The cog train has about ten stops and if you've the right footwear it's fun to get off a few stops from the top and walk the rest of the way up. And so on.

To recap: Geneva, meh. Lake Geneva is great with or without kids.
