Avoid Haverhill...
Gloucester/Cape Ann are handy for whale watching tours. Salem is interesting.
Boston is worth wandering around and the USS Constitution is good if that's your sort of thing (Bunker Hill is near there but you have to be a real history geek to make that worth a visit)
Vermont has some nice scenery.
Cape Cod is supposedly worth a trip but we didn't make it.
