In about 1970 I remember working on my Ford Anglia (first car)

and reading an article in the Daily Mirror about Unions demanding massive pay rises or they would force the government to its knees. Alongside this was another piece about starvation in the Third World.

I thought then that this was insane. People here demanding ever more reward for doing less while millions worked for next to nothing. It couldn't continue, & there was no moral justification for it either.

If the unions had been truly concerned with the plight of their fellow man they'd have addressed this imbalance - in fact, the imbalances in this country as well. Their self-interest was no less than the Tories, despite their posturing.

Today the situation is actually far better globally than it ever has been. This is basically because of two things: free trade & technology. Not socialism.
