He's a very good manager but not elite

I think he's in the tier below manages like Pep, Mourinho and Ancelotti.

His records with Villarreal and Malaga were great. He also had an excellent league campaign with Madrid too, but was just unfortunate to face the greatest team of all time. Having said that, Mourinho managed to topple them... hence the idea that Pelle's not elite, although he didn't receive the extra time Jose did.

His Man City league win was partly down to a lack of great competition and Liverpool (aka Suarez and Sturridge + 9 geeks) having a meltdown when it mattered, although he deserves loads of credit for inspiring City to a late great run of results. They certainly weren't winners by default like this year's champions will be. 86 points suggests they were worthy.

What stops him from being a top class manager is that he just doesn't have the tactical nous to change from a standard set up, like with City he has generally persisted with an open 4-4-2 including Yaya in CM, which means they're often exposed against well organised counter attacking teams. It's the same reason why they struggle to compete and control games against the top European sides in the Champions League.
