That was partly due to Lambert, but partly because they knew it was their real chance to do something significant in the game.

Neil took over a squad of players, most of whom have experiened the Prem, and who lack that same hunger and desire. Hughton had the different problem of trying to maintain the performance levels of individual players for 2 seasons and stave off the inevitable regression to the mean.
