All this talk about rich investors
It's not even about that. Swansea have done well for years and don't break the bank. Leicester have rich owners, but are top with a mere ?40M net spend (inb4 wages, which is bollocks considering where they are) over two seasons.
Why have those clubs succeeded? Because they have a plan in terms of smart recruitment and largely buying ready made players to suit a certain style.
The real problem with Norwich is down to recruitment over the past few years. Okay we bought Naismith, good player... but was it a signing that actually fixed a problem position? No. Pinto looks a terrible cheap punt. Klose looks a good footballer, but not the defensive rock that we need in a scrap.
Even going back to the RVW's, Fer's and Hooper's. Either bad/lazy players recommended by poor scouts, or just ones that didn't fit the squad.
Last season we spent good money for a champs club, but bought players like Jerome and Grabban who were decent for the time, but not premier league potential players with lots of years left in them. Vadis was another expensive (for that level) foreign signing that just hasn't slotted in. Then there's wasting money on the likes of McGrandles.
This club generally doesn't spend as much as it should in relative competitive terms, but when it does there rarely seems to be a plan.
