Finished reading 'Among the Thugs' by Bill Burford last night
Really good read. Published in 91 about football crowds and their behaviour. Burford spent a lot of time with Man Utd's mob, despite being a Cambridge educated American journalist.
Even though I started attending matches in the mid 80s (I hope that isn't offensive to anyone) I had forgotten the sheer scale of brutality that existed then and in society more generally. His account of Man Utd's visit to Turin for the 84 CWC Semi final is something else, along with the England fans 'march' prior to the match against Holland in Italia 90.
