No, the problem was that we WERE able to do that too well

but with our midfield and defence being so slow we can't get them back down the pitch quick enough when we lose the ball. We keep getting hammered on counter attacks (see the Leicester and Palace games for other examples). We cannot keep committing so many players up the pitch.
With Mulumbu back we need to play two DMs and let the others focus on attack (drop the jack-of-all trades players like Howson & Dorrans who aren't actually much good at either defending or attacking)
