its a great idea IF the threshold is set at the right level

there is no way on earth that as someone on an above average salary that I should be entitled to claim JSA if I lose my job - if I haven't set aside savings to cover the eventuality then more fool me. I see people spending an utter fortune pcm on SKY/Broadband etc without batting an eyelid, so requiring people to save for a rainy day is not the end of the world.

Someone on a below average salary? No, the State's safety net should be there for them.
