And what they're often doing is agreeing with the prevailing concensus, which currently is

a "leftish liberal" one, but could become, and has been in the past, fascistic. It's as if a concensus must be enforced, and that idea is totally at odds with the concept of concensus. It's when concensus becomes orthodoxy, which is an even more suspect concept than concensus.

I'm someone with innate lefty liberal inclinations, but I don't trust orthodoxies. I' welcome a bit of heterodoxy, even if I think it's wrong - if you shout people down they find other ways to make their voices heard.
