the problem with that argument..
is that you are suggesting that if the Tories had been in power then they would have acted differently i.e. they would not have joined the US war on Iraq and would have imposed more regulation on banks. Neither of which sound remotely like things the Tories would do (pretty sure they were supportive of US action and were probably calling - as they always do - for LESS regulation on big business)
So the faults you are laying at Labour's door are actually that in that administration they acted too much like the Tories. So if you want someone to be less Tory-like (which it really sounds like you do) Labour are still the better bet.
