The difference is simple though. In English football, the model, however grotesque, is thriving. In international cricket, what's happened will reduce the whole field to a small group of three - and however awful the Greed Is Good League is, I can't think of any other sport anywhere which is deliberately contracting at international level, and is in the process of destroying the game in traditional countries.
About the only thing FIFA have ever got right has been the colossal expansion of the sport across the world. The ICC does the opposite.
