That's very good, powerful stuff

Apropos of nothing, on a train from Paddington to Oxford 7 or 8 years ago, some loudmouth thug got on and sat in the seat behind me. On his mobile phone, he loudly, coldly - in fact, from my point of view, chillingly - was organising some sort of NF-style punch-up. It was when he yelled down the phone about iron bars that most of us in the carriage started edging forwards and away as carefully as we could. I'd like to think someone contacted British Transport Police, but I doubt it.

And on a separate but related note: in Oxford city centre around the same time, a bunch of us were stood waiting for the bus early on a Saturday evening. Among us were two people of North African appearance.

A local drunk wandered past, spotted them, and started yelling at them to "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY COUNTRY". It was disgusting. He walked right up to them still yelling, then got out a lighter and flicked it in front of their faces. Then he finally wandered off.

At which point, we all immediately checked they were both OK, and apologised for the awful experience they'd just gone through. But what was so pathetic - on all of our parts - was the way we'd all stood and watched like a bunch of cowards instead of telling this piece of s**t to get to f**k in the first place. I found it eye-opening and revealing for all sorts of grim reasons.
